I attached these sturdy and attractive 8" deep shelves to my elderly mother's kitchen wall. I then moved most of the previously hard to reach items in the kitchen onto the easily accessible shelving. I raised the front legs by 1/4" making the shelves sturdy even when free standing, but also screwed the back of a shelf into a wall stud.
